21世紀はBioengineeringの時代。19世紀は化学の時代、20世紀は物理の時代でした。19世紀には元素という概念が確立し、周期表にあるほとんどの元素が発見され、産業革命の進展を支えてきました。20世紀には電子が発見され、物理学の発展による急速な工業化が私たちの生活を豊かにしてきました。そして21世紀は、iPS細胞に代表される再生医療、ゲノム解読、遺伝子治療技術、免疫学などの発展により、生物学への期待がますます増してきています。これら生物学は情報技術の高度化により発展していくという考えもあります。ヒトのDNAは１細胞あたり約60億塩基対、遺伝子の数は約2万3千個であり、地球には1000万種以上の生物がいるとも言われています。膨大な要素が複雑に相互作用することで、生物は機能を発揮します。これらの膨大な情報量を扱う生物学は、高度な情報技術を無くしては大きく発展しなかったことでしょう。
今、21世紀は年々情報科学技術が凄まじい勢いで発展し、これら高度な情報技術を武器に、生物学の海を開拓するチャンスを与えられました。私たちBECはこの海に航海しようとする”Bioengineers”と帆走し、新領域を切り拓きます。

東京大学新領域創成科学研究科博士課程修了（生命科学）。2014年エルピクセル株式会社創業。代表取締役として医療・創薬分野の画像解析AI事業に従事。2019年に深層学習を活用したプログラム医療機器の承認を取得。これまでに、医療画像業界で最⼤の業界団体である日本画像医療システム工業会にて常任理事を務め、内閣府規制改⾰推進会議による提言等で様々な行政、規制緩和に貢献。厚生労働科学研究費事業（2021〜23年度）にてデータ加⼯ガイドライン作成。エルピクセルの取締役を退任後、現在は医療AI推進機構株式会社を設立し、内閣府が主導する次世代医療基盤法を活用した医療データの利活用促進等に取り組む。
